Philosophy Term 4

An exciting new module starting in Philosophy on 3 October 2024, no prior learning required.

A JOURNEY THROUGH MORALITY, KNOWLEDGE & AESTHETICS

We are conducting this class jointly with U3A Brisbane via Zoom videoconferencing.

Thursday 1:30pm – 3:30pm. Classes start 3rd October.

Join us this term for an engaging exploration of philosophy that connects ethics, knowledge, and human experience. We’ll question whether we should trust what we hear in today’s information-saturated world and examine our obligations to obey the law. Delving into the nature of knowledge, we’ll reflect on what it means to truly know and how our experiences shape our perceptions. We’ll consider the complexities of the mind and the notion of free will, contemplating our autonomy and responsibility. Additionally, we will explore how philosophy informs scientific inquiry and the evolution of aesthetics from antiquity to meta-modernism.

Supplementary Class Information:

If you have not participated in our zoom classes before then this is a good one to start with. No prior learning is required, and everyone is welcome. In this class, you will have the opportunity to share your insights and engage in rich discussions, connecting profound philosophical concepts with your life experiences. Join us as we uncover the interwoven themes of morality, knowledge, freedom, and beauty together!

Note: Participants are encouraged to sign on 15 minutes before class to enjoy some chit-chat. We have a cuppa break. Classes sometimes run overtime depending on the discussion. You can do as little or as much preparation as you want. We will mail out discussion questions ahead of class, and we will send you the tutorial PDF after the session.
